Chelsea’s name has been thrown into the mix as a potential suitor for Fiorentina defender Pietro Comuzzo.
The 20 year old has had a superb season, and now Juventus and a number of Premier League teams are watching him. According to TuttoMercatoWeb, Manchester United have set their sights on him, and Newcastle, Tottenham, Arsenal and Chelsea are all keen too.
He’s big and strong, a leader and a threat from set pieces. We can see why there’s a lot of interest in him, and if he keeps his form up until the end of the season his price will continue to rise.
After his promotion from the academy to the senior team a year ago, Comuzzo has become a first choice player for the Viola this season, racking up 32 appearances in all competitions this season.
There will certainly be no shortage of interest in him from all over in the summer – we’re just not sure Chelsea are going to be the ones who end up signing him.
Chelsea need another defender – but a youngster may not be the right move
So where does Chelsea’s defensive situation stand overall? It’s very confusing, let’s face it.
We have so many players on the books, but only Levi Colwill looks like a player we’re counting on as first choice next season. Now Welsey Fofana has suffered another injury, it’s surely time to replace him.
Given we already have Aaron Anselmino, Josh Acheampong and Mamadou Sarr on the books who are all very young and highly rated, we’re not sure adding another youngster is the right idea. An experienced, elite player is what needed, not another youngster with potential.
It will depend a lot on who ends up on the market, but if someone like Dean Huijsen is on the market, that’s quite clearly a better option for Chelsea than another kid full of potential.
