$127M former DE says Cowboys never 'gonna win Super Bowl' after leaving for Seahawks in FA
The Dallas Cowboys are having what can be described for them as a free agent frenzy with a flurry of abnormal activity this offseason. In a surprise twist, they've been one of the busiest teams early in free agency, even if they aren't registering on the Richter Scale in terms of league-wide impact.
However, the Cowboys haven't only added players, they've also seen some of their better free agents leave for other opportunities. One of those players was veteran defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence, who signed a three-year $42 million deal with the Seattle Seahawks. Not only did Lawrence walk away from the only team he's ever played for, but he took a parting shot on the way out.
Just a day after he left Dallas, Lawrence dropped a harsh message to the Cowboys and their fans in an interview with a Seahawks blogger, claiming to have left because Dallas is never going to win a Super Bowl.
“Dallas is my home… But I know for sure I’m not gonna win a Super Bowl there” 😭 pic.twitter.com/F31fVSZLC4

That's a terrible look on the Cowboys, and it stings because Lawrence was a great player for the team for a long time. It hurts to hear, but unfortunately, Lawrence probably isn't wrong.
The team hasn't won anything in the last 30 years and the organization hasn't done much to change the perception that they're not a winning franchise. And in the last few years, the Cowboys seem to be heading in the wrong direction.
It's one thing for fans to say it, but it's quite another for a former player to admit it as well. Many Cowboys fans will admit that Lawrence is spot on, that the front office led by Jerry and Stephen Jones don't know how to mold a championship roster together.
A few follow up questions would've been nice to hear, and will almost assuredly come in the near future as national media wrap their hands around the story.
Is what Lawrence said a product of what he's witnessed in the last 11 years? Is it an ownerships issue, or is it mainly the players fault? Was the veteran DE upset with the was his free agency status was handled this offseason? Is that why the comments felt so personal?
It's fair to wonder why Lawrence, who admitted he still lives in Dallas, would offer such scathing criticism. He might be hearing about this for some time.
Cowboys fans will have to wait for concrete answers, but it's clear Lawrence doesn't believe his former team is capable of winning a Super Bowl. He's joining the crowd on this one. The Seahawks haven't been better than the Cowboys for the last handful of seasons, though they do have more recent success in the grand scheme of things.
The truth is there's only one Super Bowl winner every year, but the comment is out there now and Lawrence can't walk it back. It's a sad ending for one of the best defensive players the Cowboys have had in the last decade. Sad for the player, and the team, who can't seem to escape criticism.
Lawrence was harsh, but fair.
