Patriots release former Georgia Bulldog, 2-time Super Bowl champion
The New England Patriots are releasing former Georgia Bulldogs center David Andrews.
Andrews has played with the Patriots for the last nine seasons. He won a pair of Super Bowls with New England during the Tom Brady and Bill Belichick era and has started 121 career games. Andrews has not played for another NFL team in his career and that may be about to change.
"Andrews had been a cornerstone of the Patriots' offensive line ever since his arrival to the NFL," said Danny Jaillet of Patriots Wire. "He was an eight-time captain, who helped the team win two Super Bowl titles. He is still recovering from the season-ending shoulder injury he suffered last season."
Andrews went undrafted in the 2015 NFL draft, but immediately found a home and assumed the starting center role as a rookie for New England. Andrews signed a two-year, $12 million extension with the Patriots last offseason. Andrews' release leaves New England with $4 million in dead cap, but they did gain $2.67 million of cap space, per Spotrac.
The 32-year old center will certainly have a market as a free agent. He joins numerous other Georgia Bulldogs as NFL free agents.
