Watch live: White House holds press briefing in wake of Biden's 'garbage' remark
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre will brief reporters Wednesday afternoon.
The press conference comes after President Biden sparked backlash Tuesday when he appeared to compare supporters of former President Trump to "garbage" while commenting on a racist joke a comedian made at a Trump rally days earlier calling Puerto Rico an “island of garbage.” The former president is looking to capitalize off of the gaffe.
Vice President Harris, the Democratic presidential nominee, also responded to the remarks, seeking to distance herself from the fallout.
The briefing is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m. EDT.
