Warren contrasts 'prosecutor' Harris with 'felon' Trump in fiery convention speech
Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) sought to contrast Vice President Harris with former President Trump, underscoring Harris's time as a prosecutor while calling the former president a “felon.”
Warren recounted how the first time she became acquainted with Harris was after the 2008 financial crisis, saying Harris was "protecting families" as California attorney general and "Donald was scamming students at Trump University and trying to make money off people losing their homes. Kamala Harris stepped up.”
“She enforced the law, she fought the giant banks, and she delivered billions of dollars of help for families,” Warren continued. “And that is the difference between a criminal and a prosecutor.”
Before her time as vice president and as a senator from California, Harris served as the state attorney general and San Francisco district attorney before then. Warren’s speech alluded to the fact that Trump has been convicted on 34 charges in a Manhattan district attorney probe related to falsified business records.
Warren received an energetic welcome as she walked onstage, at one point looking emotional as the crowd cheered for her.
The moment is particularly noteworthy given Warren ran against Harris for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020, both of whom later lost to President Biden.
Warren is up for reelection this cycle; the Massachusetts Senate GOP primary to determine which Republican runs against her is scheduled for Sept. 3.
The nonpartisan election handicapper Cook Political Report rates her seat “solid Democrat.”
