Harris widens lead over Trump after debate, new Reuters/Ipsos poll shows
Vice President Harris widened her lead over former President Trump following Tuesday’s presidential debate in a new Reuters/Ipsos poll.
The poll, which took place Sept. 10-12, found Harris up 5 points over Trump, with Harris at 47 percent support and Trump at 42 percent support. Another Reuters/Ipsos poll, which occurred late last month, found Harris at 45 percent versus Trump’s 41 percent support among registered voters.
Harris was seen by many as having a successful debate Tuesday night; 63 percent of registered voters in a flash poll said the vice president performed better on the debate stage, while only about 37 said the same about Trump.
The Reuters/Ipsos poll found the vice president came out on top in the recent debate, with 53 percent of voters who said they had heard about the debate choosing her as the winner. Only 24 percent of this group chose the former president as the debate's winner.
Harris’s campaign even boasted about the vice president's debate performance, posting most of the debate on X and referring to it as its "newest ad."
In the post, after Harris’s closing statement in the debate, the video is cut off and doesn’t include Trump’s closing statement. A photo of the vice president pops up featuring a voiceover in which she says, “I approve this message.”
The Reuters/Ipsos poll featured 1,690 people and 1,405 registered voters and had a near 3-point margin of error among the registered voters.
