Vance says he thinks Trump believes in Constitution
Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio) said he believes his running mate, former President Trump, believes in the Constitution.
Vance, the Republican vice presidential nominee, joined CBS’ “Face the Nation” on Sunday, where he was asked by host Margaret Brennan if he will defend the Constitution and make sure Trump does, too.
“Of course, but I don’t worry about Donald Trump. I think that Donald Trump believes in the Constitution. It’s why he’s running for president a third time because he’s worried that Kamala Harris has broken the greatest economy in the world,” Vance replied.
Brennan interjected, noting that Trump has talked about ending the Constitution and challenging the election results after the 2020 election and the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol.
“I think that Donald Trump believes in the American Constitution. I know he does,” Vance said. “I’ve seen it in his actions. I’ve talked to him about it.”
Vance said that personally, his first loyalty is to the American people and the U.S. Constitution. He argued that threats to the Constitution comes from Vice President Harris.
“I think the threats to our Constitution, Margaret – and I do think they’re real, the threats to our Constitution come from Kamala Harris, who’s saying that she wants to censor Americans instead of persuade them,” Vance said.
