Vance on Trump declining to endorse him: ‘It’s too early’

Vice President Vance argued that it's too early for President Trump to name his successor, after Trump declined to endorse his No. 2 as the Republican nominee in 2028.
Vance, in an interview with the Daily Mail, laughed off questions over the president saying he wouldn’t name the vice president as his pick to succeed him.
“I think he said exactly what he should have said, which is, ‘It’s too early,'” Vance said, adding that he isn’t focused on politics.
“There will be a time to focus on politics, of course — [like] the midterms. … So let’s do a good job and then worry about the midterms,” the former Ohio senator continued. “And then we'll worry about presidential politics at the appropriate time.”
Fox News’s Bret Baier had asked Trump in a pre-Super Bowl interview if he viewed Vance as the 2028 GOP nominee. Trump replied, “No, but he’s very capable.”
“I think you have a lot of very capable people. So far, I think he’s doing a very fantastic job," the president added. "It’s too early; we’re just starting."
Vance emerged as the clear favorite to succeed Trump’s MAGA movement in a straw poll conducted at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) on Saturday, with 61 percent of its attendees saying they would support the vice president.
The same poll found 12 percent said they would support Trump’s former adviser and right-wing media personality Steve Bannon, while 7 percent said the same about Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R).
Vance this month traveled to Europe and used his first major speech on the international stage to accuse European leaders of stifling opposing viewpoints. He has also been tasked with overseeing a TikTok deal, hurricane recovery efforts in the U.S. and has been credited with getting swing-vote Republicans to support some of the president’s more controversial nominees.
