Trump says he's meeting with Bezos next week
President-elect Trump will meet next week with Amazon founder and Washington Post owner Jeff Bezos next week, Trump said during a visit to the New York Stock Exchange.
Trump rang the opening bell at the stock exchange then walked the floor to greet traders. He spoke briefly during the visit with CNBC’s Jim Cramer about his plans to meet with Bezos.
"Jeff Bezos is coming up next week,” Trump said, suggesting the billionaire would visit him at Mar-a-Lago in Florida.
A spokesperson for Bezos did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The meeting comes as Bezos, like other leaders in tech, has signaled he is hoping to make inroads with the president-elect.
The Washington Post did not endorse a candidate in the 2024 presidential election, a decision made by Bezos even though the paper’s editorial board had drafted an endorsement of Vice President Harris. Bezos also publicly congratulated Trump on his election win in November — something he did not do when President Biden won in 2020.
The president-elect, during his first term, frequently attacked Amazon and the Post. Amazon argued in court in 2019 that the Trump administration did not select the company for a Pentagon contract because of Trump's own bias.
Meanwhile, Meta donated $1 million to Trump’s inaugural fund, the company confirmed to The Hill Thursday.
The news came just weeks after CEO Mark Zuckerberg visited Trump at his Mar-a-Lago resort in what was largely seen as an attempt to court the president-elect as he heads back to the White House.
Tech billionaire Elon Musk — the owner of SpaceX, Tesla and the social platform X — has also been an increasingly prominent and influential figure in Trump’s orbit since the election.
