Trump cuts Harris lead to 3 points in New Hampshire: Poll

Former President Trump has cut Vice President Harris’s lead to just 3 percentage points in New Hampshire, according to a poll released Friday.

The Emerson College Polling/WHDH survey found that 50 percent of New Hampshire likely voters support Harris, while 47 percent back the Republican nominee; 2 percent said they would cast a ballot for a third-party candidate, and 1 percent were undecided.

About 53 percent of New Hampshire voters said they had a favorable outlook of Harris, while 47 percent disagreed, according to the survey. Inversely, 47 percent had a favorable view of Trump compared to 53 percent who said the opposite.

“Harris’ margin among women is similar to that of Biden in 2020 — however, male voters have shifted about two points toward Trump,” Emerson College Polling executive director Spencer Kimball said. “In addition, Harris is underperforming Biden’s 2020 support among independent voters, who break for Harris by 13 points, but broke for Biden by about double that amount.”

The economy was the top issue for the Granite State voters, with 34 percent saying it was the most important issue facing New Hampshire. Second was housing affordability, at 26 percent, and in third place was democracy at 10 percent, followed by health care at 8 percent and immigration at 6 percent.

Other polls from earlier this month found a larger gap between the candidates. Harris led Trump by 9 points, 50 percent to 41 percent, among New Hampshire's likely voters according to a UMass Lowell’s Center for Public Opinion survey conducted Oct. 2-10. The Democratic nominee was up by 7 points in the New Hampshire Institute of Politics at St. Anselm College poll from early October.

The last time a Republican presidential candidate won New Hampshire was in 2000. President Biden won the state by more than 7 percentage points four years ago.

The Hill/Decision Desk HQ’s polling averages currently show Harris leading Trump in New Hampshire by 2.7 percentage points, 49 percent to 46.3 percent.

The Emerson College Polling/WHDH poll was conducted Oct. 21-23 among 915 likely New Hampshire voters. The margin of error was 3.2 percentage points.
