Trump calls Jack Smith ‘sick puppy’ as latest Jan. 6 evidence unsealed
Former President Trump on Friday railed against special counsel Jack Smith and the judge overseeing his case on efforts to subvert the 2020 election as Smith released a slew of new documents.
"The judge is allowing him to do it. And it’s not even believable," Trump said Friday morning on "The Dan Bongino Show," shortly before the documents were made public. "This guy is a sick puppy. And they’re going to release something else. And always before the election; it’s election interference. No, it’s a terrible thing what’s happening."
Trump also blasted U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan, who a day earlier rejected an effort from Trump's team to delay the release of additional documents from Smith.
"This judge is the most evil person," Trump said of Chutkan. "They all said, 'Well, make sure you don’t get Chutkan.' And who did I get? I got Chutkan."
Chutkan last week agreed to a request from Smith to unseal exhibits that accompany his 180-page brief asserting prosecutors can still bring much of their Jan. 6, 2021, case against Trump despite a Supreme Court decision granting former presidents broad criminal immunity.
Smith argues Trump’s efforts to thwart the transfer of power were the unlawful actions of a private citizen, not of a president.
Chutkan granted Smith’s motion to post redacted versions of the exhibits, which could include grand jury transcripts, texts and other evidence assembled by prosecutors.
Trump was indicted on federal charges in Washington, D.C., last year over his efforts to remain in power after losing the 2020 election. Smith charged Trump with four counts, alleging he was the director of a conspiracy to defraud the U.S. and was also central to a campaign to block the certification of votes on Jan. 6, 2021.
