Trump: America 'like a garbage can for the world'

Former President Trump on Thursday compared America to a "garbage can for the world" as he railed against immigrants coming into the country in large numbers.

The former president delivered remarks in Arizona, where he argued Vice President Harris's border policies should disqualify her "from even thinking about being president."

“We’re a dumping ground,” Trump told supporters in Tempe. “We’re like a garbage can for the world. That’s what’s happened. That’s what’s happened to our — we’re like a garbage can. You know, it’s the first time I ever said that. And every time I come up and talk about what they’ve done to our country, I get angrier and angrier. First time I’ve ever said ‘garbage can.’ But you know what? It’s a very accurate description.”

Trump has repeatedly used disparaging language to describe immigrants, claiming cities have been "conquered," that migrants are "destroying" the way of life in U.S. cities and that those entering the country illegally are "poisoning the blood" of the country.

The former president has pledged to carry out mass deportations of those in the country illegally if he is elected in November, and he has signaled he would revoke protected status for certain groups, such as Haitian migrants.

Harris and her campaign have repeatedly attacked Trump for sinking a border security bill negotiated in the Senate by lawmakers in both parties. The former president urged Republicans to oppose the bill, signaling it would be seen as a political win for Democrats.
