Stephen A. Smith says he 'might entertain' politics because Democrats look 'pathetic'
Sports pundit Stephen A. Smith over the weekend appeared to float the idea of entering politics, saying the Democratic Party looks "pathetic."
“I doubt I’ll ever run. It’s not me. I live a pretty good life, and I don’t want to ruin it by getting involved in politics," Smith said during an episode of his podcast.
"But I got to tell y'all something: The Democratic Party looks so pathetic," he added. "After this election, I might entertain one.”
Smith suggested mainstream Democrats are in a vulnerable position following former Vice President Kamala Harris's loss to President Trump last fall, creating an opening for a political outsider to take over the party.
"How much would it take to beat y'all?" Smith asked. "And Trump can't run again. He's done."
The host's comments were first highlighted by Mediaite.
Smith, one of the most recognizable sports media personalities in the country, has not shied away from weighing in on politics in recent months and has teased running for political office one day.
He appears somewhat regularly in interviews on cable news channels, including one fiery exchange with Fox News host Sean Hannity last fall during which they debated the presidential race.
