Rogan says he doesn't consider himself Republican or Democrat
Podcaster and media personality Joe Rogan does not identify as a Republican or a Democrat, he said this week.
"I don’t consider myself a Republican. I don’t consider myself a Democrat, either," Rogan said on his popular podcast.
"I consider myself an American," he continued. "I’m a human being and there’s a lot of things that the Democrats believe that I believe too. There’s a lot of things that they say that I say, that makes a lot of sense to me. And there’s a lot of things that the Republicans say where ... that makes a lot of sense to me too. And the idea that I have to ignore things that make sense to me because it’s coming from the wrong team is just stupid."
The podcaster's comments were first highlighted by Mediaite.
Rogan attended President Trump's inauguration on Monday and publicly backed him before November's election.
Trump sat for a wide-ranging interview with Rogan as part of a media blitz that saw the GOP candidate largely spurning mainstream media outlets in favor of internet influencers, social media personalities and other content creators.
A controversial figure in the media for years, Rogan has sparked backlash with his commentary on health care, immigration and other key political issues.
The comedian and pundit recently suggested the United States should seek to "take over" Mexico after Trump mused about making Canada a 51st state and has proposed renaming the Gulf of Mexico to the "Gulf of America."
