RFK Jr.: Trump rally ‘the opposite of Nazism’
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. on Tuesday said the rally hosted by former President Trump at Madison Square Garden is the “opposite of Nazism” as Democrats seek to paint the right in that light.
Kennedy joined Fox News’s “Fox & Friends” to discuss his reaction to the New York City rally. He said he was in attendance for the event and that there was good energy in the arena.
“There was so much joy in the room and optimism and patriotism and idealism about our country and it was the opposite of Nazism,” Kennedy said. “The need to use that most invocative, and explosive, and incendiary, and poisonous reference and it’s being used across the trop ranks of the party, it’s Hillary Clinton, it’s Kamala, I think it’s really, it’s bad for our country.”
Democratic vice presidential nominee Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz compared Trump’s Madison Square Garden rally to a rally held by the American Nazi Party. In 1939, the American Nazi Party held a rally at the arena that brought in 20,000 supporters. Walz said he believed Trump knew what he was doing by hosting his rally at the famous venue.
While speaking at the rally, comedian Tony Hinchcliffe made a racist joke that has drawn criticism from both parties likening Puerto Rico to a “floating island of garbage in the middle of the ocean.”
Kennedy said he was in the crowd for the event and people “groaned” at the joke.
“No one was laughing,” he said.
Kennedy, who dropped out of the presidential race and endorsed Trump, said a lot of people in the country were asked growing up if they could go back in time and kill Adolf Hitler when he was a child.
“So, when you compare an American political figure to Hitler, who is about to become president, the kind of people who are, you know, who are already a little unstable, you’re really suggesting to them that this man should be killed before he gets into office,” Kennedy said.
