Obama: 'You would be worried if your grandpa was acting' like Trump
Former President Obama took a swipe at former President Trump's competence Friday, mocking the GOP nominee for his recent rhetoric.
“He called himself ‘the father IVF,'” Obama said during a rally in battleground Arizona. “I do not know what that means. You do not either. He said January 6th was ‘a day of love.’ You would be worried if your grandpa was acting like this."
"No, no. I’m not joking. You would, right? You’d call up your cousins and you’d say, ‘have you noticed?'” he added.
Democrats, including Harris’s campaign, have also attacked Trump in recent weeks over his mental fitness, questioning his stability and knocking the former president for standing and swaying to music for nearly 40 minutes at a Pennsylvania town hall earlier this week.
“I do have to point out that along with his intentions, there is also a question of his competence,” Obama continued Friday. “Have you seen him lately? I mean, he is out there, he’s giving two, two-and-a-half-hour speeches. Just word salads. You have no idea what he’s talking about.”
“He’s talking about Hannibal Lecter,” he added, referencing Trump praising the fictional serial killer Hannibal Lecter. “He’s talking about this. He’s talking about that.”
Obama was visiting Tucson, Ariz., Friday evening to campaign for Vice President Harris and Senate candidate, Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.). With less than three weeks left until Election Day, the Democratic former president is making the rounds through key swing states and will appear with Harris next week in Georgia.
During Friday's rally, he also tore into Trump for his decision to stop taking questions during his Monday town hall short after two medical episodes. Instead, the GOP presidential nominee chose to play his favorite songs for the crowd.
“Let me explain because I’ve done a lot of town hall meetings,” Obama said in Arizona. “The point of a town hall meeting is to take questions. He just decided, you know what, I’m gonna stop taking questions and then he’s swaying to ‘Ave Maria’ and ‘Y.M.C.A.’ for about half an hour.”
“Folks are standing there, not sure what’s happening,” he continued. “Can you imagine if I did that? Can you imagine if Ruben did that?”
