North Carolina Republican proposes renaming Dulles airport after Trump
Freshman Rep. Addison McDowell (R-N.C.) introduced legislation this week to rename the Dulles International Airport (IAD) near Washington after President Trump.
McDowell, who represents North Carolina's 6th Congressional District, proposed the bill on Thursday alongside Reps. Guy Reschanthaler (R-Pa.), Brian Jack (R-Ga.), Riley Morre (R-W.Va.) and Brandon Gill (R-Texas).
If the legislation ends up passing through Congress and is signed into law, the airport will be named ‘‘Donald J. Trump International Airport’’.
“We have entered the golden age of America largely thanks to President Trump's leadership,” McDowell said in a Thursday press release. "It is only right that the two airports servicing our nation's capital are duly honored and respected by two of the best presidents to have the honor of serving our great nation.”
Reschanthaler along with other House Republicans proposed a similar bill during the previous Congress. That piece of legislation, which was introduced in early April last year, was co-sponsored by other House GOP lawmakers, including Andy Ogles (Tenn.), Chuck Fleischmann (Tenn.), Paul Gosar (Ariz.), Troy Nehls (Texas), Barry Moore (Ala.) and Trump’s current National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, who served three terms in the lower chamber.
Dulles was named after the former Secretary of State John Foster Dulles who served during the Eisenhower administration. It is located in Virginia, roughly 25 miles west of D.C.
Reschanthaler said the bill “will cement [Trump's] status in our nation’s capital as our fearless commander-in-chief, extraordinary leader, and relentless champion for the American people.”
