Nigel Farage urges Trump to accept defeat if he loses and 'go play golf'
Nigel Farage, a member of U.K. Parliament who helped lead the nation's campaign to leave the European Union, urged former President Trump to "accept the result" of the U.S. election, whichever way it goes.
In an interview with The Telegraph, Farage said that "if Trump loses, he should move on for the sake of U.S. democracy rather than claim the election was stolen, as he alleged in 2020." Instead, Farage, speaking during a trip to Mar-a-Lago for Trump's election watch party, said the former president should "go and play golf" if he loses.
"If it was clear and decisive, then maybe it’s time [for Trump] to go and play golf at Turnberry," Farage said.
Though, he later added, "I still think he is going to win."
The U.K. official also said during the interview that he did not accept Trump's "stolen election narrative" in 2020 and would be happy to tell that to the former president's face.
“Let’s hope and pray that is not an issue this time. If it [the outcome] was clear, then Republicans have to accept the result," Farage told The Telegraph.
He added that Vice President Harris could mitigate any threats of violence if she wins the election by pardoning Trump.
“If she gets in on Tuesday, I hope she pardons him. She could look magnanimous, and it would dampen down potential tensions,” he said.
Farage said Trump returning to the White House would bring "exciting" prospects, mentioning tech billionaire Elon Musk and the shuttering of entire government departments in a government efficiency role.
The Hill has contacted the Trump and Harris campaigns for comment.
On Election Day, The Hill/Decision Desk HQ's polling aggregate shows Harris and Trump tied at 48.4 percent support nationally.
