Maher on another Trump term: 'I'm s‑‑‑ting my pants. ... I may quit'
Comedian Bill Maher said in a podcast that he is tempted to quit his show, citing the prospect of President-elect Trump’s second term.
“I’m s‑‑‑ting my pants,” Maher said. “I mean, I may quit because I don't want to do another — I did Trump. I did all the Trump stuff before anybody.”
“I called him a conman before anybody. I did, ‘he's a Mafia boss.’ I was the one who said he wasn't going to concede the election,” Maher said. “I've done it.”
Maher’s guest, Jane Fonda, challenged Maher on why, then, Trump is “so hostile” to comedian Jimmy Kimmel and “not to you.”
Maher shot back, “He's very hostile to me. He tweets about me every week.”
“Every week, he ‘accidentally’ watches my show,” Maher continued, using air quotes, saying the president-elect calls him a “low-ratings loser.”
“But, I mean, I just — I'm bored with it,” Maher added.
Fonda, a longtime progressive activist and Hollywood actor, suggested Maher “find a new thing to do and not do Trump,” but Maher suggested that would not be feasible.
“The show is the politics. There’s no other thing,” Maher responded. "And he’s going to dominate the news like he always does.”
Maher, earlier this year, signed a contract with HBO to renew his show, “Real Time,” for two more seasons through 2026.
Maher had his first special on the network in 1989 and regularly makes headlines with his commentary on politics, policy and current events.
