Johnson invites Trump to address Congress on March 4
Speaker Mike Johnson on Saturday extended an invitation for President Donald Trump to address a joint session of Congress on March 4, the first in Trump’s second presidency.
In a letter to the president, Johnson invited Trump to “share your America First vision for our legislative future,” thanking him for his “strong leadership and bold action” in the first days of his presidency and asserting that “America’s Golden Age has begun.”
“Your administration and the 119th Congress working together have the chance to make these next four years some of the most consequential in our nation’s history,” Johnson wrote.
The speech is not technically considered a State of the Union, but presidents since Ronald Reagan have delivered similar addresses shortly after their inaugurations that have been handled with similar pomp and circumstance.
The White House has yet to formally accept the invitation, though Trump is expected to confirm his March 4 address.
