Honda recalling 1.7M vehicles over steering concerns
Honda recalled approximately 1.7 million vehicles in a Wednesday announcement, due to a defective part in the steering gearbox in various Honda and Acura models manufactured from 2022 to 2025.
It said the defect can cause abnormal steering noise, increased steering effort or "sticky" steering. The recall impacts Honda models including the 2022-25 Civic Sedan, 2023-25 Honda CR-V, 2023-2025 Acura Integra and 2024-2025 Acura Integra Type S, among others.
The company is contacting owners via mail throughout November.
Owners of all affected models are being asked to take their vehicle to an authorized Honda or Acura dealer that will redistribute or add grease and replace the gear spring with an improved part.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) began investigating the issue in March 2023. At that time, the agency noted that Honda received 61 customer complaints from the U.S. market between September 2018 and March 2023. There were no reports of fatalities or injuries related to this issue.
However, NHTSA said last year 11 drivers lost control due to not being able to overcome the increased steering effort prior to their vehicle leaving the roadway.
