Tesla recalling almost 700K vehicles over tire pressure monitors
Tesla is recalling nearly 700,000 vehicles over an issue with the warning light on the tire pressure monitoring system.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) wrote in a Thursday letter that the automaker is recalling certain 2017-2025 Model 3, 2020-2025 Model Y and 2024 Cybertruck vehicles.
The agency said the tire pressure monitoring system warning light “may not remain illuminated between drive cycles, failing to warn the driver of low tire pressure.”
Driving with improperly inflated tires raises the risk of crashes, the NHTSA said in the letter.
In response, Tesla said it has provided a free software update. The letters to the owners are expected to be sent out on Feb. 15. Owners can contact Tesla’s customer service and NHTSA’s vehicle safety hotline.
The Elon Musk-led company has faced previous recalls this year. This is the Cybertruck’s seventh recall in 2024, according to the NHTSA. Cybertruck’s previous recall, which occurred in early November, affected more than 2,400 units.
In late July this year, Tesla recalled 1.85 million vehicles due to a software issue that could lead to a failure to detect an unlatched hood while driving.
Two months prior, the Texas-based automaker recalled more than 125,000 vehicles to fix an issue around a seat belt. The recall encompassed four different models.
