Fox's Doocy presses White House spokesperson on stock trends, DOGE cuts
Fox News reporter Peter Doocy pressed White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt on Tuesday on how the struggling stock market might effect the administration's government reform efforts.
"Is there any concern here that it's going to be harder to ask certain federal workers to retire if they look at their retirement accounts and they're getting rocked every day?" Doocy asked Leavitt during a briefing.
Leavitt struck a tone of optimism in response.
"There's great indication to be optimistic about where the economy stands," Leavitt said. "And the American people, executives, investors and most importantly workers should bet on President Trump."
Wall Street took major losses on Monday amid widespread concern about President Trump's trade disputes with Canada and Mexico, the price of consumer goods and other economic headwinds.
The financial pain comes as Trump and the new Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), led by billionaire Elon Musk, offer buyouts and implement mass layoffs across federal agencies in an effort to trim the size and spending of government.
Doocy, before Tuesday's briefing began, suggested during a report on Fox it "is tough to make the argument that they should retire if their retirement accounts are getting throttled."
