Philadelphia Eagles to visit the White House after Trump's 2018 snub
The Philadelphia Eagles will visit President Trump at the White House on April 28 to celebrate their Super Bowl victory.
Press secretary Karoline Leavitt said Tuesday the White House invited the Eagles and that they “enthusiastically accepted” the invitation for a visit later this month.
It marked a turnaround from 2018, when during Trump's first term, he disinvited the team over its protests of the national anthem
Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie at the time had also reportedly criticized Trump’s views on the protests, as well as his “disastrous presidency,” in private.
The Eagles this year beat the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl on Feb. 9 in New Orleans. Trump attended the game and had picked the Chiefs to win, telling Fox News in an interview beforehand that he’s “a big fan of both teams.”
Trump, ahead of the Super Bowl this year, called Eagles running back Saquon Barkley “one of the best running backs” and said Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts is “a great quarterback.”
He had congratulated the Chiefs after they won the AFC championship game to advance to the Super Bowl but didn’t comment on the Eagles’ win in the NFC championship game.
