Biden to give last foreign policy address Monday
President Biden will deliver an address on his foreign policy legacy on Monday, a senior administration official previewed.
The speech will focus on his administration’s work to strengthen America’s standing around the world, the official said, and will be delivered at the State Department in Washington, D.C.
Biden is expected to discuss America’s standing on the global stage when he first took office in 2021 and argue that the U.S. is in a stronger position in the four years since. He is also set to argue that international alliances and partnerships are the strongest they’ve ever been under his administration.
The official also said Biden will argue that America, as opposed to its adversaries, is in the drivers’ seat globally and that he is handing the incoming Trump administration a stronger hand than what he inherited, which was from President-elect Trump.
The president will talk about NATO alliances, support for Ukraine, Indo-Pacific partnerships to challenge China, support for Israel and the chaotic Afghanistan withdrawal, according to the official.
He will also discuss bringing together Japan and South Korea, defeating Houthi attacks in the Red Sea, restoring the Paris Accords, strengthening supply chains and driving the development of AI globally, the official added.
Biden gave some of his first remarks as president on foreign policy at the State Department on February 4, 2021.
The president campaigned in 2020 on his vast experience on foreign policy issues from his time in the Senate and as a former vice president. His presidency has been marked by the troop withdrawal from Afghanistan, followed by Russia’s ongoing war in Ukraine and the Oct. 7 Hamas attacks on Israel that launched the war in Gaza.
