Biden reschedules Angola trip for early December
President Biden intends to travel to Angola in the first week of December, the White House said Wednesday, rescheduling a trip that was scrapped as Hurricane Milton approached Florida last week.
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said Biden would make his long-awaited trip to Africa in early December, where he will meet with President João Lourenço.
"The value of strong alliances and partnerships in the defense of freedom has never resonated more in Europe, in Africa and beyond," Jean-Pierre said at a press briefing. "These visits demonstrate the president's unwavering commitment to revitalize these relationships for our shared security and prosperity."
Biden had been scheduled to visit Germany and Angola last week, but the trip was postponed due to concerns about Milton bearing down on Florida. Biden will depart Thursday for Germany, where he will meet with European leaders and discuss ongoing support for Ukraine in its war against Russia.
Biden hosted the Angolan president at the White House last year and discussed traveling to the country, vowing to build a stronger partnership with democracies in Africa. He had previously pledged to visit the African continent, and it appears he will fulfill that promise in the final weeks of his term.
