Founder of now-closed Apple Daily says he started a media business because “the more you are in the know and the more you are free”
Pro-democracy media mogul Jimmy Lai has taken the stand in Hong Kong, testifying for the first time after being charged with foreign collusion under the city’s punitive national security law.
Lai, who is a British citizen and the founder of now-closed Apple Daily, sounded hoarse as he swore an oath on the Bible, but his voice grew stronger as he gave testimony. He sat at a desk, his reading glasses on the table in front of him.
