Why Hasn't A New James Bond Been Picked? New Report Details Bond 26's Status
The one thing that's certain about the future of Ian Fleming's iconic spy is that James Bond will return... it's just anyone's guess as to when. It's been three years since Daniel Craig's final film appearance as Bond, and an actor has yet been selected to take his place. Now, a new report is shedding some light on where things stand with the Bond franchise.
As reported by The Telegraph, Eon Productions--the company that produces the Bond films--has brought in a few potential directors for "a first round of speed dates" to get a feel for their take on 007. Unlike many of the previous Bonds, Craig's version of the character can't simply be recast since No Time To Die definitively finished his story. Whatever form the next Bond movie takes, it will essentially be another reboot for the franchise.
The report shoots down the popular speculation that Christopher Nolan might make a Bond movie. Instead, it lists two surprising potential contenders: Edward Berger and Kelly Marcel. Berger directed the recent remake of All Quiet on the Western Front that was released by Netflix, while Marcel is the screenwriter turned director of Venom: The Last Dance who wrote or co-wrote the previous movies in the franchise.
