Undertale Sees New Peak For Steam Concurrent Players Nearly A Decade After Launching

It's hard to comprehend that Undertale will be 10 years old later this year. But new audiences apparently keep finding the RPG, as the game broke its own Steam record for concurrent players on Sunday with 11,071 people, per SteamDB.

Over the weekend, Undertale developer Toby Fox shared the Steam record for the RPG on X. Funnily enough, Undertale's concurrent players spiked even higher hours after Fox made the social media post. The creator seemingly chalked up the huge boost in players to the Steam Spring Sale--which is running now through March 20--as the game costs $1. Usually, Undertale retails for $10 on Valve's storefront.

Undertale originally launched on PC in September 2015. The subversive RPG became critically acclaimed and grew a passionate fanbase, coming to consoles like Switch in 2018. To give an idea on the game's impact, Undertale's Sans character came to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as a Mii Fighter. Additionally, Fox ended up composing music for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. The developer is currently busy with Deltarune Chapters 3 and 4, which are slated for release this year.
