Yankees’ Giancarlo Stanton dealing with ‘minor’ injury unrelated to elbows
Giancarlo Stanton is already out indefinitely thanks to lingering tennis elbows.
Those aren’t his only injury concerns, though.
Aaron Boone said the designated hitter is also dealing with a “minor” calf issue on Friday night, per MLB.com’s Bryan Hoch. Boone added that Stanton, already set to start the season on the injured list thanks to his elbows, still doesn’t have a timetable for resuming baseball activities.
Stanton has a long history of lower-body injuries, which prompted him to revamp his offseason routine two winters ago. He reported to spring training in noticeably trimmer shape in 2024, though he still missed over a month with a hamstring strain last summer. Meanwhile, his elbows bothered him for most of last season, even as he enjoyed a power surge throughout the Yankees’ playoff run.
The elbows acted up again this past offseason, forcing Stanton to stop swinging a few weeks before reporting to spring training. He’s since undergone three rounds of PRP injections on his elbows.
While Stanton called his elbow injuries “severe,” Brian Cashman recently described surgery as a “last resort.” Operating on Stanton’s elbows would cost him the 2025 season.
On top of all that, Stanton left Tampa midway through camp so that he could tend to an unspecified personal matter in New York.
