With trout season opening April 5, here's which stocked waters have been added or removed

With Pennsylvania’s trout season opening Saturday, anglers should know there are several new waterways receiving trout this year and several others have been removed from the annual trout stocking program.

Every year, the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission adjusts its adult trout stocking program based on several factors, including angler access, water quality, repair work and wild trout designations.

For 2025, these waters have been added or extended for trout stocking:

Caroline Lake, Bucks County: This 8-acre impoundment has been added into the trout stocking program. The county park provides excellent angler accessibility. Trout will be stocked during the preseason and in-season stocking periods.

Harvest Fields Ponds, Centre County: This 3.1-acre impoundment has been added into the trout stocking program. Located near State College, this impoundment provides excellent angler accessibility.  Trout will be stocked during the preseason and in-season stocking periods.

Mosquito Creek, Clearfield County: Located near the town of Karthaus, a 2.3-mile section of stream extending from the confluence of Grimes Run downstream to the mouth has been added into the trout stocking program. Trout will be stocked during the preseason and in-season stocking periods.

Joe Burkhardt, left, and Cori Karns, fish culturists, weigh a netful of trout Feb. 20, 2025, at the Reynoldsdale State Fish Hatchery in Bedford County. The fish were placed in the elevator lift to a truck for stocking in area rivers and lakes.

Big Cove Creek, Fulton County: Because of an increase in accessibility, the stocking limits have been extended two-tenths of a mile upstream. The new revised stocking limits will extend 13.6 miles from 300 yards upstream of the State Route 1003 bridge downstream to Laurel Ridge Road bridge. Trout will be stocked during the preseason and in-season stocking periods.

Toms Creek, Adams County: Because of an increase in accessibility, the stocking limits have been extended 1.8 miles downstream. The revised stocking limits will extend 6.76 miles from Mount Hope Road downstream to State Route 16 bridge. Trout will be stocked during the preseason and in-season stocking periods.

White Deer Creek, Union County: Because of an increase in accessibility, the stocking limits have been extended to seven-tenths of a mile upstream of Dyer Road. The revised stocking limits will extend 4.8 miles from .7 miles upstream of Dyer Road downstream to the mouth. Trout will be stocked during the preseason and in-season stocking periods.

Waters no longer stocked with trout in 2025

When survey data suggests that a waterway is no longer suitable for adult trout stocking based on a loss of angler access, environmental factors or designation as a Class A wild trout stream, the PFBC makes every attempt to reallocate fish to a comparable location nearby. The agency reports when inadequate angler access is the reason for a removal, locations are monitored for improvement so these waters can be considered for reinstatement to the stocking program if access is improved.

Bald Eagle Creek, York County: The agency reports an increase in the amount of landowner posting has led to the removal of trout stocking from a 2.3-mile section extending from Garvine Mill Road downstream to 250 meters downstream of Gamble Road. This ...
