Wisconsin volleyball's Grace Lopez tears ACL. What the season-ending injury means for the Badgers

MADISON – Grace Lopez will have to wait until 2026 for her Wisconsin debut.

The 6-foot-1 right-side hitter who transferred to the Wisconsin volleyball program after player her first two seasons at Miami announced on social media Tuesday night that she suffered an ACL injury.

She suffered the injury before the team departed for two spring matches at Hawaii, but it was confirmed this Tuesday.

The injury occurred to her right leg, the same leg she suffered an ACL tear to while in high school. The injury will require surgery and sideline her for all of the upcoming season.

“There is no way we’re wanting to rush it,” Badgers coach Kelly Sheffield said. "It’s one of those things. Is it physically possible? Perhaps. We just never approach things in a way to get someone back fast. What we want is can we go about things in a way so that this isn’t an issue moving forward.”
