Who is Jutta Leerdam? More about the Dutch speed skater engaged to Jake Paul
Jake Paul is officially off the market. So is Dutch speed skater Jutta Leerdam.
Paul, a YouTuber turned boxer, announced his engagement to the Olympic medalist on social media Saturday. The couple has been together since early 2023, according to an Olympics profile.
"We’re engaged," the 28-year-old Paul wrote. "We can’t wait to spend forever together."
The couple shared photos of the moment Paul got down on one knee, the reaction and the giant rock. The couple wore all white, and were surrounded by white candles and what appeared to be white flower petals blanketing the ground.
So who is Leerdam? Here's what to know about Paul's fiancée.
Who is Jutta Leerdam?
Jutta Leerdam, 26, is a professional athlete who hails from the Netherlands.
"She grew up in the south of the Netherlands, skating on tracks around her hometown of 's-Gravenzande, which ultimately led her to the greatest stages in the world," according to Leerdam's Olympic biography.
The former field hockey player took up speed skating when she was 11 years old and won her first championship seven years later, the biography says.
Leerdam won a silver medal in the women's 1000-meter speed skating competition at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing.
"Wow… What a rollercoaster," Leerdam wrote on social media at the time. "Really happy with a silver medal on the Olympic games!!!" She also won six gold medals at the European Championships in the 1000-meter speed and sprint competition.
How did Jake Paul meet fiancée Jutta Leerdam?
In an episode of Netflix’s "Countdown: Paul vs. Tyson," Leerdam revealed that Paul slid into her DMs on Instagram.
“Jake sent me a DM on Instagram and asked if I wanted to be on his podcast,” she said. “When he hit me up me online, I thought, ‘What an arrogant (expletive). He thinks he can do anything, but he won’t get me.' I never expected to date him.”
The 26-year-old said they "really connected in these two crazy worlds on a super personal, deep level" and have been "inseparable" ever since.
The couple has had to navigate a long-distance relationship at times as they both maintain their training schedules around the world, Paul revealed in a June 2023 YouTube video.
