The No. 2 seeded Crimson Tide opens the NCAA Tournament against No. 15 seed Robert Morris. The Colonials are in the NCAA Tournament for the third time in 10 years and for the 10th time in history. However, one of the years they qualified was 2020, so they did not play a game, as the tournament was canceled due to COVID-19.
The Crimson Tide and Colonials are set to tip off at 11:40 a.m. CT at Rocket Arena in Cleveland. The winner advances to play the winner of No. 7 Saint Mary's and No. 10 Vanderbilt.
Robert Morris enters the tournament on a 10-game winning streak and as Horizon League regular season and tournament champions. The Colonials went 26-8 and 15-5 in conference play. But what Crimson Tide fans might be wondering is, "Where, exactly, is Robert Morris?"

Where is Robert Morris located?
Alabama's men's NCAA Tournament first-round opponent, Robert Morris, is located in Moons Township, Pennsylvania, about 16 miles northwest of Pittsburgh.
What conference does Robert Morris play in?
Established in 1921 as the Pittsburgh School of Accountancy. The school was renamed after Robert Morris, the Founding Father and Pennsylvanian, and was known as the “Financier of the American Revolution" in 1935, according to the school's website. Morris served as a member of the Pennsylvania legislature and as a senator.
The Colonials became an NCAA member in 1976 and made their first men's NCAA Tournament appearance in 1982. This year marks their ninth tournament appearance and the third in 10 years.
Robert Morris competes in the Horizon League for most sports. Exceptions include football and men's lacrosse, which compete in the Northeast Conference; men's and women's hockey, which competes in Atlantic Hockey America; and women's rowing, which competes in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.
Why is Robert Morris known as the Colonials?
Robert Morris is known as the Colonials to honor Founding Father Robert Morris and his connection to the American colonies' fight for independence. Morris is one of the signers of the U.S. Constitution, Declaration of Independence and the Articles of Confederation. He's one of two people ― along with Roger Sherman ― to sign all three documents.
However, the name has come under scrutiny in recent years. In 2022, the Robert Morris University Board of Trustees considered a name change for the nickname, following the lead of George Washington University. GWU, also known as the Colonials, changed to the Revolutionaries in 2023.
The nickname "Colonials" was under criticism because of the negative stigma associated with "colonization" and the persecution and marginalization of the original residents. Nothing ever came out of the discussion, and Robert Morris is still known as the Colonials.
