The Alabama Crimson Tide suffered their first series loss of the season over the weekend, but it took the top-ranked team in college baseball to hand Rob Vaughn's Crimson Tide a weekend series defeat.
The reigning national champion Tennessee Volunteers picked up a 9-2 victory over Alabama on Saturday at Sewell-Thomas Stadium to win the series after the Tide's blistering 21-1 start to the season.
Alabama (22-3 overall, 4-2 SEC) went 2-2 last week after picking up a 6-5 win over the Vols in Thursday's series opener and beating South Alabama two nights earlier on a walk-off home run by Kade Snell in the 10th inning.
After Week 6 of the 2025 college baseball season, the Crimson Tide didn't fall in most of the major Top 25 rankings on Monday. Alabama even rose one spot to No. 11 in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll, while over at Baseball America, the Tide stayed at No. 10 for the second week in a row. They're ranked one spot below No. 9 Oregon State and one spot ahead of the Oregon Ducks.
Baseball America's Peter Flaherty and Jacob Rudner said of Alabama:
"Though it suffered its first series loss of the season, it was still a strong week for Alabama who picked up a hard-fought, extra-inning win over South Alabama and a series-opening victory over top-ranked Tennessee. Kade Snell was the hero on Tuesday and blasted a walk-off home run, while on Thursday Justin Lebron’s three-run double was the difference-maker. It was a bit of a down week on the mound for the Crimson Tide, but a handful of bullpen arms still managed to turn in quality appearances. Another big week lies ahead for Alabama, headlined by a top 10 series against No. 8 Oklahoma."
D1 Baseball kept Alabama at No. 11 in its Top 25 rankings, while Perfect Game was the only outlet to drop the Crimson Tide in its rankings. Alabama fell three spots to No. 14 in Perfect Game's Top 25.
Tennessee (22-2) remained the top-ranked team in each of the Top 25 polls. Tony Vitello's club has been No. 1 in the Coaches Poll for five consecutive weeks.
