What Nate Oats said about new head coaching job for former Alabama basketball assistant
Another former Alabama basketball assistant from the Nate Oats coaching tree has a new job.
Bryan Hodgson is moving on from Arkansas State and taking the helm of the program at USF, which hosted Crimson Tide guard Chris Youngblood before the fifth year hit the transfer portal for his native Tuscaloosa last April.
Despite being in the midst of his third straight Sweet 16 run with Alabama (27-8), Oats took a moment to congratulate Hodgson on his latest journey that will take him from Jonesboro to the Sunshine State.
In a post to X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, Oats said "USF got a great one!"

Hodgson is well-known for his recruitment of forwards Brandon Miller, who now plays for the Charlotte Hornets, and Noah Clowney of the Brooklyn Nets.
Oats noted Hodgson turned Arkansas State into "one of the best mid-major programs in the country" in two years. With the Red Wolves, he went 45-28, highlighted by his first regular season conference championship after going 13-5 in the Sun Belt league this season.
"A rising star in the business and one of the best recruiters in the country!" Oats said.
Hodgson was an assistant at Alabama from 2019 to 2023, when he left for Arkansas State, and came to UA with Oats after serving four years on his staff at Buffalo.
Oats' last message to Bulls fans in Tampa and around the country was to "get ready for a high-octane winning brand of basketball" that'll come under Hodgson.
