What Garrett Nussmeier said about his Dad becoming the Saints offensive coordinator
LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier won't be the only member of his family leading an offense in Louisiana this fall. Garrett's father, Doug Nussmeier, is now the New Orleans Saints offensive coordinator.
After winning a Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles, Doug Nussmeier joined Kellen Moore in New Orleans. Moore will call the plays, but Nussmeier plays a critical role in Moore's system as the two are on their fourth stop together. Before New Orleans, Moore and Nussmeier worked together in Dallas, Los Angeles, and Philadelphia.
As spring football gets underway for LSU, Garrett Nussmeier met with the media and discussed his dad's new job.
"It's gonna be really cool for not just me and my dad, but my entire family to have him that close. I tell people all the time, my whole life, always been a Saints fan because he played there," Garrett said.
"I think he's really excited to be back there and its great for our family, great for him, and so I'm excited for him and its going to be really, really cool," Nussmeier said.
Despite growing up a Saints fan, Garrett Nussmeier couldn't always embrace that fandom in recent years with his dad working elsewhere. Nussmeier said he's excited to root for the Saints and "be a full 'who dat' again."
Garrett Nussmeier has high hopes for LSU in 2025. The senior quarterback is among the favorites for the Heisman trophy and considered a contender to be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. If that's the case, Nussmeier will be the third LSU QB to capitalize on a big fifth-year after Joe Burrow and Jayden Daniels accomplished the feat.
