Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix ended his career as an Oregon Duck and as the NCAA’s single-season leader in passing completion rate. Nix and teammate Tez Johnson developed chemistry on the field during their one year as teammates, but their off-field chemistry formed well before that.
ESPN ran an incredible feature on them not too long ago, chronicling how Bo Nix and his family took Johnson into their family at 15 years old. Although not adopted legally, Nix and Johnson refer to each other as brothers. Nix spoke about how Johnson became a part of his family as a teenager.
“I heard it was good," Nix said when asked about ESPN's feature in January. "I haven’t been able to watch it yet. I’m proud of him. I know it’s been a really cool journey. It’s been a really cool part of life that I’ve gotten to go through. Both he, Tez, and my biological little brother Caleb [Nix], who’s at Clemson, who has been able to go through some things. They’ve both made me proud as a big brother. It just reminds you that there’s a lot more to life than just what we do with football. There’s a lot more that goes into each individual person and their souls, and how important each person is. For us, it was just a really cool thing to have him.
"He kind of had a need, and we just happened to be there. We just happened to be willing to offer up a night to come over and spend the night, and then the next thing you know, he hadn’t left. Our whole entire family has been overjoyed with guys like him. Not only him, but there are so many other teammates who come out to watch me play, they catch us in different parts of the country to where we’ve just as a family have loved the guys that I’ve been able to play on teams with, and my dad has been able to coach. It just kind of leaves a lasting impression. Everybody at that point becomes family, and they’re just like a brother to you for the rest of your life. Tez just happens to live with us.”
