U.S.-Mexico 2031 Women’s World Cup bid exploring games in Costa Rica and Jamaica The U.S.-Mexico bid for the 2031 Women’s World Cup is exploring staging matches in Costa Rica and Jamaica.

Sources familiar with discussions, speaking on the condition of anonymity, indicated that while nothing has been confirmed, early-stage conversations about hosting a limited amount of fixtures in the two CONCACAF countries have taken place.

It is unclear at this stage whether it would be Costa Rice, or Jamaica, or both to hold matches, but the number of games is likely to be limited and may even just be fixtures involving the host nation in question. The countries would need to demonstrate they have the appropriate stadium infrastructure if they are to be included in the bid.

U.S. Soccer and the Mexican Soccer Federation announced in April their intention to lodge a joint bid for the 2031 tournament. The two federations withdrew their bid for the 2027 World Cup to instead focus on 2031.

The United Kingdom launched a joint hosting bid for the 2035 World Cup in March, seemingly paving the way for the U.S. and Mexico to host in 2031. FIFA say a decision on the host nations for both 2031 and 2035 is anticipated in 2026.

Member associations will be required to submit their bids to FIFA in quarter four of 2025.

Neither Costa Rica or Jamaica has held fixtures at a senior major women’s tournament before, although the former did host the 2022 Women’s Under-20 World Cup.

CONCACAF president Victor Montagliani said this week he would be interested in potentially adding a Caribbean or Central American host to the 2031 bid.

“I think we’re open minded on that,” Montagliani said, speaking at the Business of Soccer conference in Los Angeles on Thursday, as reported by Yahoo Sports.

“The U.S. is a very strong candidate, even if they went on their own. But I think those discussions are being had by U.S. Soccer, by Mexico, and others as well. And CONCACAF is at that table.”

Should an additional country be added to the bid, the 2031 tournament would be the first Women’s World Cup to be hosted across more than two countries.

The 2026 Men’s World Cup will mark the first tournament where three countries — Canada, the U.S. and Mexico — are co-hosts, while the 2030 tournament will be hosted across Portugal, Spain and Morocco, and with the first three matches being held in Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay.

It was confirmed in December Netflix has secured the exclusive broadcast rights in the United States for the 2031 Women’s World Cup.
