CHILLICOTHE – It was fitting that for his 400th win, Coach Tony Taylor’s squad put up a shutout over a Scioto Valley Conference rival.
Unioto defeated Paint Valley 3-0 on Monday night at Unioto High School.
Maybe it was fate that brought the game to Unioto - in front of its home crowd when the game was supposed to be at Paint Valley but moved due to field conditions.
Maybe it was fate that brought the win after a season where they had started off losing their first two games.
Maybe it was a sign of things to come, as the Shermans grueling schedule have them playing six games in six days this week.
Either way, Taylor's team delivered him the milestone win.
KB Perkins threw a complete game, giving up two hits, and striking out 14.
The Shermans got on the board with a run in the bottom of the third on an error that allowed Jack Welch to score.
They added another run in the fifth when Jack Welch singled. Jaxon Zickafoose’s sacrifice and Welch advanced to second. Keegan Snyder then singled on a fly ball to center and Welch scored.
Callaway Ratliff scored in the sixth after Caden Speakman hit a ground ball and reached first on an error.Welch went 2-of-3 with two runs. Snyder was 1-of-3 with an RBI and Speakman had an RBI.
After the game, Coach Taylor was greeted with many hugs and congratulations. A formal ceremony to honor his achievement will be held at a later date.
