Stony Point boys basketball coach Antoine Thompson is leaving the Austin area.
Thompson, who in his three-year tenure led the Tigers to three straight district titles, the regional tournament in 2023, a Class 6A runner-up finish in 2024 and the Class 6A Division II regional finals this season, is taking the Dallas South Oak Cliff job, he confirmed to the American-Statesman on Thursday.
“I’m forever grateful for the opportunity Stony Point provided me,” said Thompson, noting he’ll never forget the players he worked with. “The ultimate goal in coaching is to not only have success on the floor but also cultivate relationships and a positive environment off the court. … We did that, and we’ve seen high character from our players and a 100% graduation rate.”
Stony Point didn’t lose a district game during Thompson’s tenure, going 44-0, and had an overall record of 102-9.
Thompson, 33, who grew up in the Austin area and played at Manor, graduating in 2009, was an assistant for the Tigers and at LBJ before becoming Stony Point’s head coach in the summer of 2022.
Married with two kids under the age of 7, he said his family was a big reason for heading to the Metroplex.
“At the end of the day I had to make the best decision for my family,” he said.
