UConn star Azzi Fudd to forgo 2025 WNBA Draft for one more season in college
The University of Connecticut might lose one star to the 2025 WNBA Draft, but the other one is sticking around for one more year. Standout guard Azzi Fudd will return to UConn for one more season, she told ESPN.
Fudd was expected to be a first-round pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft, but said she will return to school to “work on everything I need to work on."

Fudd told ESPN returning will allow her to “work on everything I need to work on” — and she believes one final year in Storrs will take her game to an all-new level pic.twitter.com/mlhrlIqMYo
As a senior, Fudd averaged 13.4 points for the Huskies, good for third on the team. She has an extra year of eligibility after taking a medical redshirt during the 2023-24 season.
Fudd was considered the No. 1 recruit in her class when she joined UConn in 2020. She turned in a promising freshman year, averaging 12.1 points and 2.7 rebounds per game. Fudd struggled through a knee injury as a sophomore, playing in just 15 games. Despite the injury, her scoring output increased to 15.1 points per game.
Fudd appeared in just two games as a junior before tearing her ACL during practice. She redshirted the rest of the season and returned to action in November 2024. After a relatively slow start, Fudd dropped 23 points in a January win over Xavier. That performance kicked off a stretch in which Fudd scored double-digit points in 15 of 19 games.
While UConn has experienced plenty of success with Fudd, the team has not won a national championship during her tenure. She reached the title game as a freshman, but UConn lost the contest to South Carolina.
Fudd's teammate, guard Paige Bueckers, is expected to be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft in April.
With Fudd back in the fold next season, UConn should once again have massive expectations despite losing Bueckers to the WNBA.
