Two Exeter High School standouts are Seacoast Athletes of the Week for March 3-8
The Seacoast high school Athletes of the Week winners for March 3-8 are Exeter High School boys hockey player Chase Barbour and Exeter High girls basketball player Nicole Melick, presented by York County Community College.
Melick joins previous girls winners this winter: Portsmouth Christian Academy basketball player Zuri Petlick, Marshwood/Traip wrestler Savannah Chapman, Dover High School swimmer MaryLou Carroll, Exeter hockey player Rylee York, Exeter girls hockey player Grace Weed, Marshwood basketball player Emily Clark, Marshwood basketball player Sarah Theriault, Berwick Academy basketball player Gracie Smith, Exeter basketball player Lexy Rogers, St. Thomas Aquinas basketball player Emma Toriello, Marshwood basketball player Natalie Lathrop and Berwick Academy basketball player Ella Smith.
Barbour joins previous boys winners this winter: Spaulding hockey player Anthony Allen, Spaulding wrestler Jayden Deal, Dover High School hockey player Owen Lovering, Portsmouth basketball player Finnegan McCauley, Marshwood basketball player Ronan Garrett, St. Thomas Aquinas High School boys hockey player AJ Kozlowski, Portsmouth basketball player Derek Swartz, Marshwood/Noble/Traip/Sanford hockey player Connor Lentz, Portsmouth alpine skier Nic Davis, Oyster River hockey player Talon Beyer, Dover hockey player Andrew LeBlanc and Winnacunnet swimmer Shea Olofson.

Barbour received more than 38% support in the online poll with 1,109 votes to win boys Athlete of the Week. Portsmouth basketball player Damien Sanu finished second with 896 votes.
Traip Academy wrestler Kylan Berry had 608 votes, Oyster River basketball player Owen Jacques had 149 votes and St. Thomas Aquinas hockey player Jackson Estes had 105 votes, to round out the five nominees.
Barbour had two goals to help lead No. 6 Exeter to a 3-1 Division I quarterfinal upset win over No. 3 Keene on Saturday.
"Very happy for Chase, he had an awesome senior season and career, and it was highlighted by his two-goal performance against Keene in the playoffs," Exeter head coach Paul DiMarino said. "He's an outstanding kid with a great work ethic, and he is well deserving of this award. We are going to miss him next season."

Melick won the online poll by receiving more than 37% of the votes to earn girls athlete of the week. Dover basketball player Avery Littlefield finished second with 586 votes.
Oyster River girls basketball player Wren Horne had 215 votes, Oyster River/Portsmouth hockey player Samantha Anderson had 178 and Exeter hockey player Maddy Mann had 119 votes, to round out the five nominees.
Melick scored a team-high 17 points to help Exeter complete a 19-point comeback in a Division I first-round tournament win over Dover .
"We are happy to see Nicole receive recognition for her outstanding game against Dover," Exeter head coach Kaylene Rogers said. "Not only did she connect from the field to lead the team in points, she worked hard on the defensive end pulling down eight rebounds and three steals which were key components that led to our team's comeback."
Rogers added, "What most impressed us this season about Nicole is her willingness to ask for feedback and her unwavering determination to apply it. She worked hard every day and consistently improved. Her efforts on defense really helped the team as the season progressed and she played a key role in our final games. She really stepped up; congratulations to Nicole on this well-deserved honor."
