Michigan State basketball is getting ready for the biggest game the program has seen since 2019, when the Spartans face off against the Auburn Tigers in the Elite 8 on Sunday.
Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo, and his assistant coaching staff, have done an outstanding job with adjusting the lineups and finding different combinations that work against different matchups. With that, it sometimes means diminished minutes for certain guys in the rotation.
Two Spartans directly affected by matchups and different things MSU have had to do against New Mexico and Ole Miss is Xavier Booker and Szymon Zapala. Booker has been a DNP the past two games, while Zapala did not play against Ole Miss and only had 10 minutes against the Lobos.
That trend will change on Sunday, according to Tom Izzo.
During Saturday's press sessions, Izzo shared that he expects both Booker and Zapala to play on Sunday, meaning there is something in the scouting report is advantageous to see the Spartans big guys get some minutes.
Tom Izzo says he expects to play both Szymon Zapala and Xavier Booker vs. Auburn.
