Tom Brady makes admission on split with Bill Belichick and Patriots
Tom Brady making the decision to leave the New England Patriots back in 2020 was one of the biggest storylines in NFL history.
After winning six Super Bowls alongside legendary coach Bill Belichick, Brady decided to bet on himself by taking his talents to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He left the system that helped him go from a sixth-round draft pick to the greatest quarterback of all time.
It obviously worked out in his favor as he went on to knock off Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs to win a Super Bowl in his first year with the Buccaneers.
But why did he leave New England? That has been one of the greatest mysteries since he penned his goodbye letter to fans. Well, that question might have finally been answered in a recent post from Brady on his website regarding his thoughts on free agency.
Brady wrote:
“The reality was, after twenty years together, a natural tension had developed between where Coach Belichick and I were headed in our careers, and where the Patriots were moving as a franchise. It was the kind of tension that could only be resolved by some kind of split or one of us reassessing our priorities.”
To sum it all up, Brady simply felt like it was the right time.
The team was headed in a different direction, and he was still looking to win championships. It's incredible that Brady and Belichick won for as long as they did after being tied at the hip for nearly two decades.
In a business where change is inevitable, Brady saw the writing on the wall for his time in New England.
