Woods earned his spot in that exclusive club - now numbering six - when he also won the 2001 Masters after winning the 2000 U.S. Open, 2000 Open and 2000 PGA. Those four major wins in a row, over two seasons, earned Woods what was then dubbed the "Tiger Slam."

McIlroy acknowledged Woods during his victory speech.

"This is by far the greatest golf tournament in the world," McIlroy said. "Watching Tiger Woods do this when I was a kid was my inspiration … My dreams have been made today.”
