These 12 big names missed the cut at the 2025 Valero Texas Open

SAN ANTONIO — It seems almost everybody wanted to come here this week. But not everybody's staying.

On a week when the Final Four is set to invade the nearby Alamodome and Jack Nicklaus made his first appearance at the Valero Texas Open, an impressive field of PGA Tour players made their way to TPC San Antonio in advance of the year's first major tournament.

But many of the biggest names who came to the Oaks Course were sent packing early. Pre-tournament favorites and the reigning champ were all part of the carnage at the tournament, which was first played in 1922 and is the third oldest on the PGA Tour. TPC San Antonio has hosted since 2010.

The cut for the event was the top 65 and ties and the cutline came in at 2 under par.

Who missed the cut at Valero Texas Open?

Ludvig Aberg (even)

This one was a shocker, especially since the Texas Tech product finished in the top 15 last year. Aberg was on the cutline at the turn on Friday, but dropped a pair of strokes on the back nine and didn't make it.

Akshay Bhatia (even)

After winning the event in impressive fashion last year, Bhatia struggled to a 74 on Thursday and although he posted five birdies on Friday, it wasn't enough.

Hideki Matsuyama (plus 1)

When Matsuyama birdied three of the last five holes on the front, it looked like he might sneak into the weekend, but he fell flat with a 38 on the back.

Sam Burns (plus 1)

Talk about painful. When Burns stepped to the 18th tee box, he was still alive, but barely. He pulled his drive left on the par-5, then knocked his third shot in the creek. A triple-bogey 8 came at exactly the wrong time for the LSU product.

Si Woo Kim (plus 1)

While Burns' demise was lightning quick, Si Woo Kim's dripped over the final few holes, as he made bogey on three of the last four holes to knock himself out of the tournament.

Chris Kirk (plus 2)

Kirk wasn't horrible on Friday, posting a pedestrian 73, but that was the same score he posted on Thursday. Not enough to avoid the cut.

Max Homa (plus 3)

What else can we say about Homa, who has changed everything in an attempt to right his ship, including severing ties with longtime buddy and caddie Joe Greiner. This was another difficult-to-stomach outing for one of the Tour's most likeable players.

Max McGreevy (plus 3)

McGreevy will be ready to get outta Texas fast. He had made five straight cuts and was trending in the right direction before struggling to a 73 in the second round at the Houston Open, where he missed the cut. San Antonio was a similar story.
