Welcome to this edition of the Vancouver Canucks post-game analytics report. This recurring deep dive breaks down the analytics behind each Canucks game as recorded by Natural Stat Trick. In this article, we look back on Vancouver's most recent 4-1 victory over the Colorado Avalanche.

The Canucks not only won of the scoresheet, but were also the better team from an analytics perspective. Vancouver won the even-strength scoring chances battle 24-23 while also holding a 13-9 even-strength high-danger chances advantage. In the end, the Canucks were able to take advantage of an Avalance team that was missing Nathan MacKinnon, by scoring four goals at even strength.

As for the heatmap, it shows why crashing the net is so important. The three goals scored on Mackenzie Blackwood came from close range, with two of the Canucks eight high-danger shots beating Colorado's goaltender. If Vancouver can play this type of style in 2025-26, it should help them qualify for the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Looking at standouts, defenceman Elias Pettersson had the highest even-strength xGF% at 80.83. During his 14:00 of even-strength ice time, the Canucks held a 7-4 shots advantage and won the high-danger chances battle 3-0. Pettersson also took part in his first career fight, which earned praise from his teammates post-game. 

To wrap things up, it was another successful outing for Aatu Räty. Vancouver outshot their opposition 7-6 during his 12:40 of even-strength ice time, while also outscoring the Avalanche 2-0. Räty also led the team with four individual high-danger chances created and finished tied for the team lead in hits with four.
