Texas Tech junior Darrion Williams to enter transfer portal, declare for NBA draft

Texas Tech junior Darrion Williams will reportedly enter the transfer portal while declaring for the 2025 NBA draft, according to Jonathan Givony of ESPN.

Williams was named to the All-Big 12 first team after averaging 15.1 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.3 steals on 34% shooting from 3-point range. He registered nine 20-point games, including a season-high 28 points on March 22 in a win over Drake in the round of 32.

The 6-foot-6 forward led the Red Raiders to their first appearance in the Elite Eight since 2019, averaging 21 points and 7.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists and two steals. He had several clutch plays throughout the tournament, including the go-ahead shot in an overtime win over Arkansas on March 27.

Williams is considered a possible second-round pick this year in the draft, given his size, scoring and ability to pull up from virtually everywhere on the court. He can also impact games on the defensive end and is a strong rebounder at his position.

The 21-year-old is expected to test the predraft process while also navigating the transfer portal to find his next program for next season, should he return to college. He is viewed as one of the top available players in the country and will likely have his pick of some of the top programs.

Williams will be able to gain feedback on his potential draft stock from teams until the early entry withdrawal deadline for underclassmen on May 28. He will likely be among the prospects invited to the draft combine on May 11-18 in Chicago, Illinois.

The 2025 NBA draft will occur June 25-26 in New York City.
