Miami Dolphins offensive tackle Terron Armstead is retiring after 12 seasons in the NFL, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
The decision likely comes as no surprise to the Dolphins. The team says it has been in "constant communication" with the lineman and were planning their offseason around the assumption that he'd retire.
Armstead, 33, spent the majority of his career with the New Orleans Saints after he was selected by the team in the third round of the 2013 NFL draft. He earned three Pro Bowl nods with the Saints before leaving as a free agent in 2021 and joining the Dolphins on a five-year, $75 million deal.
While the veteran offensive tackle earned Pro Bowl honors in his first two seasons in Miami, injuries frequently sidelined Armstead. After missing 11 games in 2022 and 2023, Armstead missed just two games in 2024; however, the lineman was sidelined for stretches in another five games.
But when he was on the field, Armstead was stellar for the Dolphins. In 2024, he was the team's highest graded player on PFF and was credited with allowing 16 pressures in 501 pass blocking snaps.
In addition to the departure of Armstead, the Dolphins also allowed veteran offensive tackle Kendall Lamm to join the Philadelphia Eagles as a free agent. Still, the team has a pair of penciled-in starters with Austin Jackson at right tackle and 2024 second-round pick Patrick Paul stepping in for Armstead at left tackle.
